USA News: Ramaswamy Pulls Out of Colorado Ballot Amid Trump Disqualification
Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has pledged to withdraw from Colorado’s Republican primary ballot in solidarity with former President Donald Trump. This decision follows the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling that disqualified Trump from running in the state due to his involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
Ramaswamy, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law, called on fellow 2024 GOP primary opponents Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley to take similar actions. He stated that the court’s decision is “appalling for the future of our country” and urged others to stand against it.
Colorado’s high court cited Trump’s engagement in insurrection surrounding the Capitol riot as grounds for disqualification. Trump’s spokesperson has indicated an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ramaswamy, addressing concerns about his own candidacy, predicted that other Republican candidates would also withdraw from the Colorado primary, potentially shifting the nomination process from a state-run primary to a party-run caucus.
The Colorado Republican Party responded, stating that Ramaswamy might not need to withdraw under the existing rules, but this could prompt a rule change from the Republican National Committee.
